WD announced a new portable hard drive that packs some really interesting features for photographers. Storing and backing up our precious images is super important and although drives have changed a lot in the past years they really have mainly changed in terms of capacity and size. WD has a really cool new drive launching that includes a SD card slot to quickly import your images directly to the drive and also WiFi! This could be such a perfect fit for any shoot that you have where you are traveling and really a perfect fit for photographers. Here is a quick look into this new My Passport Wireless drive from WD.
SD Card reader – The drive has a SD card slot so you can quickly and easily transfer photos and videos from your SD card while on the go. For all you wedding shooters and location photographers this is really helpful and something that gets me excited (well at least as excited as I can for a drive 🙂
Wireless N with MIMO for enhanced wireless performance – I think this feature is super cool. With built in WiFi you can wirelessly access files from up to 8 connected devices at once!
Rechargeable battery – This is great for portability but at the same time another thing that you always have to remember to keep charged. You do get 20 hours standby and 6 hours streaming with a charge.
Streaming to certain devices – Stream videos, photos and music to connected TV’s, media players, gaming consoles and other DLNA/UPnP devices.
Dashboard to give you insights – With the WD dashboard you can configure, manage and diagnose your drive. You can also run drive diagnostics, format your drive and more. They also have a My Cloud mobile app for access with your tablet and smartphone.
Once this is out i’ll give it a spin and report back on any additional details. If you want to pre-order it you can save a little bit on Amazon with the link below.
