Some interesting Diptych photographs

The word Diptych comes from the Greek meaning two and fold. In the art world a Diptych used to mean “a work consisting of two painted or carved panels that are hinged together”. Diptych photography can be a really cool way to play images off each other and create a visual storytelling piece of art. With digital photography most Diptych photos are 2 images that are photoshopped to be displayed as one image side by side. There are many ways to use Diptychs to add something to your images, here are just a few.

  • - Help to tell the story by including a broad image and detail image
  • - Show multiple expressions from a portrait shoot
  • - Show a before and after image
  • - Multiple images can show movement
  • - They can be very artistic, experiment with how different types of images can work together
  • If you haven’t ever created a Diptych photograph here are some great photos to inspire. If you have some great Diptych photos to share please leave a link in the comments below or share one on our facebook wall.
