Pixelmator updated to version 3.0 added layer styles

Pixelmator has been releasing a lot of small updates lately and now has updated their image editing software to version 3.0. The update fully takes advantage of the Mavericks OS with features like compressed memory and app nap. This should make the app a little more snappy and help to conserve power. Layer styles are really cool and one of the main things that Pixelmator was missing that I use constantly in Photoshop. This gives you a great non destructive way to apply an effect to any layer and comes in really handy. They also added some Liquify tools which are another very nice addition.

I’ll cover these tools in detail so stay tuned for a few follow up posts. In the meantime here are some of the top new things available in Pixelmator 3.0:

Pixelmator 3.0 FX is the most advanced version of Pixelmator to date, introducing lots of new features and improvements, including the following:

– Layer Styles: Thanks to non-destructive Layer Styles, creating polished and advanced compositions is now so much simpler, faster, and more enjoyable
– Liquify Tools: Shape images in multiple ways—slightly twist an element, add an artistic detail, or completely distort an entire image
– New Image Editing Engine: The new state-of-the-art image editing engine harnesses the full power of the latest OS X technologies making Pixelmator feature rich, yet blistering fast
– OS X Mavericks support: Tags, Multiple-Displays, App Nap support and more

It’s a solid app and does many things that Photoshop does but for only $14.99 in the Mac store. It’s an amazing value even if it doesn’t fully replace Photoshop and I highly recommend checking it out.
