HIpstamatic going under?

Synthetic Corp who makes Hipstamatic is going through some changes and it looks like laying off most of the designers and programmers in the company. For those of you who don’t know this app, Hipstamatic was one of the first photo filter apps out there on the iOS app store and a really great app. It mimicked the old school film camera very well and was a great way to get that analog feeling. Although Instagram came along afterwards and took off due to the ease of use on the app, hipstamatic still has a good level of success. It’s estimated they will make over 20 million this year which is pretty amazing for a small company with no funding. They also recently launched a iPad photography magazine called Snap a few months ago and were seemingly on their way up.

With most of their developers and designers announcing on twitter the other day that they are looking for work something is going on over there.
Although I don’t use the hipstamatic app as much as I used to I really hope that this isn’t the end for them. The company has stated that they are moving ahead full force still and are committed to continuing to make great products, so hopefully this is just a little restructuring and good things are to come in the future!

Do you currently use the hipstamatic app or other apps from Synthetic? What do you think about the apps they create and the news they are cutting the team in half? Let me know in the comments below.
